Could Dwayne Johnson Play This X-Men Icon? Not if MCU fans can help him

Dwayne Johnson is now looking for a new franchise to make headlines after DC Black sent Adam back to his grave, meaning there’s been a lot of talk lately that he might jump into the Marvel Universe instead. Although The Rock actually named the character he would most like to play in the MCU a decade ago, fans have still been circulating various other options, including everyone from Sentry to The Thing. But this latest pitch could be a winner. If only in terms of the instant disgust it inspires in X-Men pundits.

Redditor u/toddart boldly suggested in the r/MarvelStudios subreddit that Johnson could be a good fit for Colossus in the X-Men reboot and spread the idea that Kevin Feige and Co. could re-imagine Piotr Rasputin as someone of Samoan heritage instead of a Russian. Their argument is that Johnson has both “the chops” and “the body” to be the best person to bring the metal mutant to life.

What does the rest of the Reddit community say about this? Well, you probably don’t need to have Professor X’s psychic powers to guess that the OP’s pitch comments were filled with horrified reactions to the fan casting. First off, many aren’t keen on the MCU repeating Fox’s mistake of Americanizing Colossus – David Cudmore played him in the original X-Movies.

Others just don’t want to see Johnson in comic book movies anymore, period. Which is perhaps a wise move considering all his past mistakes.

One plus point of this casting, however, is that he could be the one to finally pull off a DC/Marvel crossover.

Say it louder for the people in the background!

However, the ultimate reason Johnson would be the wrong call for Colossus, as one fan eloquently argues, is that merely positioning himself as the X-Men’s “strongman” does his character a massive disservice.

Dwayne Johnson may still make it into the MCU, but the message from the fandom is clear: stay away from the X-Men. Could Dwayne Johnson Play This X-Men Icon? Not if MCU fans can help him
