Daniel Craig can’t pull off Chris Evans’ Knives Out sweater memes

“Sure, it’s a living. He does it very well. He wears it very nicely.”

When Knives Out premiered in theaters in 2019, it was a box office hit, launched countless social media memes, and sparked a lot of online thirst for co-star Chris Evans, who plays rebellious grandson Ransom in the murder family. Ransom’s white cable-knit jumper went viral, especially on social media, with many fans trying to win over the jumper. A person who doesn’t fully understand the allure of the sweater? Daniel Craig, star of Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion as detective Benoit Blanc.

“It’s the part that gets over my head,” Craig said during an interview with BBC Radio 1 (via Esquire). “I don’t get it. It’s like, so Chris Evans is wearing a sweater. It’s like he’s naked, or at least naked from the waist down and wearing a sweater. I’m like, ‘He’s just wearing a sweater.’ Messages are like, ‘Chris Evans wears sweaters!’”

Although Craig expressed surprise at the hype surrounding Evans’ sweater, he admitted that Evans wore the garment well.

“Sure, it’s a living. He’s doing very well,” said Craig. “He wears it very nicely.”

Craig appeared on the BBC to promote the Netflix release of Glass Onion, the sequel to Knives Out which sees Blanc investigate a new cast of suspects including Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline. The film was originally released in theaters during the Thanksgiving holiday for a limited week-long theatrical run, where it grossed $15 million on a reported budget of $40 million. It has since debuted at #1 on Netflix’s top 10 movie charts.

Glass Onion has received critical acclaim since it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September this year. The film was ranked 15th on IndieWire’s list of the 25 best films of the year, with Kate Erbland writing, “Filmmaker Rian Johnson needn’t worry about a dip in its second year because, while ‘Glass Onion’ bears a certain resemblance to Following on from its 2019 hit success (stacked casts, lavish filming locations, Daniel Craig is having the time of his goddamn life), this sequel is bubbly and crazy a thrill of its own, and Johnson can’t churn out these babies fast enough.
