When it comes to Taylor Swift‘s albums, everything from their pre-promotions to their post-release, is filled with sneaky clues and Easter eggs that the Swifties are very proud to have deciphered. And this time around, many fans of the singer are sure she’s dropped the name of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold’s unborn child in her recent album Midnight.
So what made fans want to use their detective skills? Apparently Swift wrote a vague name in one of her songs without explaining who this mysterious person is. The name appears in the song You’re On Your Own, Kid, the lyrics of which read: “I see the great escape, so long, Daisy May / I picked the petals, he doesn’t love me / Something else blossomed, write in my room / I play my songs in the parking lot.”
Fans are absolutely certain that this Daisy Mae isn’t a simple name that Swift threw into her song.
Why were Swifties so quick to conclude that Daisy Mae is the name Lively and Reynolds chose for their fourth child? Well, there are two reasons. First off, the “Bad Blood” singer has been one of Lively’s close friends for years. Also, this won’t be the first time Swift has included the names of the actress’ children in her songs. The names of three of Lively’s daughters – James, Inez and Betty – have a place in her album folklore.
But that’s not the only answer to Daisy Mae’s mystery. Not everyone has attempted to trace Blake Lively’s connection to the unfamiliar name, as some believe it is a reference to the eponymous character in a video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
If Swift’s reference to the turnip-selling boar wasn’t absurd enough for you in the video game, some even think that singer YouTuber and comedian Colleen Ballinger’s “Daisy Mae” lipstick line lent its name.
Yes, yes, we can’t roll our eyes enough at the last suggestion either. Anyhow, so far all of the above possibilities seem far-fetched at best, though the likelihood of Daisy Mae being the name of Lively and Reynolds’ fourth baby is actually the lesser of the three evils. But even if it turns out to be true, the A-list couple is known to have no qualms about Swift calling out their children’s names in their songs — it’s an absolute “honor” for them.
Now that the riddle won’t solve itself, we can only hope Taylor Swift takes pity on her brainstorming fans and reveals the much-anticipated answer.
