Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been rewritten 33 times

Appropriately, the recent MCU sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went through all sorts of versions and variations, with star Xochitl Gomez now revealing that the Marvel project had a staggering total of 33 rewrites. Jumps to the defense of writer Michael Waldron, who has been heavily criticized by some for doing so Doctor Strange Continuing, Gomez offers a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes pressures being placed on Waldron (via @DrStrangeUpdate).
Released last year and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens up the multiverse further and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. The sequel takes audiences on a journey into the unknown as Doctor Strange, with the help of old and new mystical allies, traverses the bewildering and dangerous alternate realities of the multiverse to confront a mysterious new foe.
Directed by horror maestro Sam Raimi and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as the now villainous Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, with Xochitl Gomez joining the fray as America Chavez, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was relatively well received by both critics and audiences, although many voiced criticism of the MCU follow-up.
The main line of attack from critics and viewers has been aimed at the overly brand-savvy approach to what could have been a major mix-up of the MCU formula. Instead of the madness of the multiverse making unique choices and taking the audience on an exciting, unexpected journey, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Instead, he feels more strangled than ever by the Marvel brand. Which suddenly makes a lot of sense given the revelation that up to 33 rewrites were required…
Doctor Strange 3 will introduce Charlize Theron as the sorceress Clea
Hopefully the development of Doctor Strange 3 will perform better than its predecessor. While there aren’t any solid details on the threequel, star Benedict Cumberbatch has stated he’d happily come back for more. “I would like to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character and it feels like there is so much more to explore with him. He’s such a brilliant character and I’m still having a wild time playing him. ‘ said the actor.
Based on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Mid-credits scene, that’s pretty much guaranteed Doctor Strange 3 will follow the Avenger as he enters the Dark Dimension alongside sorceress Clea, played by Charlize Theron. “We always knew we wanted to introduce Clea, who could be described as the love of Doctor Strange in the comics, but in many ways is a formidable sorceress equal in her own right,” said Michael Waldron last year. “Her backstory is fascinating, she is the niece of Dormammu, the giant floating head from the first film.”
Until then, the MCU marches on. We are now in phase 5 of the ever expanding franchise based on sequels such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Wonders, And Captain America: New World Orderas well as thunderbolts and the blade reboot.
