Dodger fan attacked: Couple whose marriage proposal at Dodger Stadium was thwarted by viral security recall moment

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — It was a hard-hitting marriage proposal that went terribly wrong.

A man ran onto the field at Dodger Stadium during Thursday night’s first game of the season and was eventually attacked by security guards as he got on one knee to propose to his girlfriend.

Countless videos of the moment have since gone viral, and Eyewitness News caught up with couple Stephani Gutierrez and Ricardo Juarez to talk about it.

“I think I was so shocked. I couldn’t believe it,” Gutierrez said of the proposal.

She and her friends had no idea what her boyfriend was going to do until he did.

“We were so close to the field that he thought it would be so easy to just jump off and do it,” Gutierrez said.

Juarez says he was originally going to propose in the stands but excitement and some liquid courage took over. He was ready to tell the world that his girlfriend and the mother of his young son is the one.

Juarez, a sushi chef, told Eyewitness News he did it so everyone could see that he loves his partner.

After the epic failure, safety removed him from the field. He was subpoenaed by the Los Angeles Police Department and later released.

Juarez got another chance to propose in front of a much smaller crowd later that night.

“It was on Sunset Boulevard at the Motel 8,” Gutierrez said, laughing.

One photo shows Gutierrez and Juarez smiling as she shows off the engagement ring on her finger.

“He says he hurts a little bit, but I think he’ll feel it tomorrow,” Gutierrez said. “He doesn’t care, he says, ‘I would do it again.'”

For Juarez, he proves that sometimes love hurts.

A Dodgers spokesman said the team’s front office had no comment on the proposal or the tackle. Juarez is banned from Dodgers games for at least a year.
