Dodgers are donating $1 million to the Elton John AIDS Foundation in honor of music legend’s recent US tour

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The Los Angeles Dodgers donated $1 million to the Elton John AIDS Foundation in honor of the pop star’s most recent tour of the United States, which culminated with three shows at Dodger Stadium over the weekend.

Dodgers chairman and principal owner Mark Walter and Dodgers tennis legend and co-owner Billie Jean King joined John on stage to present the donation at Saturday’s show.

“Beyond the obvious impact and enjoyment of his music, Elton has been a social leader in promoting LGBTQ acceptance and equality and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS through the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” said Walter. “We at the Dodgers share Elton’s commitment to community, equality and service and are excited to support the foundation’s work. Billie Jean and I thank Elton for all that he has achieved and congratulate him on his legendary career.”

The foundation was established in 1992 to end the AIDS epidemic and is one of the leading independent AIDS organizations worldwide.

“I want to thank the Los Angeles Dodgers for their incredible generosity in making this amazing donation to the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” said the 75-year-old singer. “I’m thrilled to be playing my final three shows of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in the US at Dodger Stadium, an iconic venue that has meant so much to me and my career.”

John’s final US show was at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night. More than 50 concerts in Australia, New Zealand and Europe are planned for 2023.
