The first part of the final season of The crown was released on Netflix in November 2023. We continue with Princess Diana and Prince Charles, newly divorced and navigating life after marriage. Diana, in turn, manipulates the press in more subtle ways by stepping out and enjoying life outside the royal family. Through her philanthropic endeavors and dating life, she is solidifying herself as a force to be reckoned with. Unbeknownst to her, Diana is in a relationship with film producer Dodi Fayed, whose wealthy father is an unlikely friend of hers.

During a trip to Monte Carlo, Dodi tries to bring some normality into their relationship by inviting Diana out for ice cream. Unfortunately, no place seems safe for them, as it doesn’t take long for passers-by to recognize the newly deposed ball-capped king. She and Dodi flee an ever-increasing crowd and seek cover in a jewelry store, where Diana jokingly picks out a ring after Dodi asks which piece of jewelry she likes best.
It’s clear to the viewer that Diana isn’t thinking about getting married, not only because she just got divorced, but also because hordes of people are pounding on the store’s windows. Later, Dodi tries to buy the ring but finds that it is available at her Paris store. Desperate to get home to her children, Dodi convinces Diana to use his private jet as long as they can land in Paris first, telling her he is coming to work.
While there, he tries to propose marriage, but is rebuffed by Diana, who simply isn’t ready.
