Dolly Parton is giving away free books to California kids under the age of 5 starting next year

Dolly Parton will be giving free books to children in California starting next year.

The legendary singer and philanthropist will send each child under the age of 5 a new book every month, according to a Announcing tweet from Governor Newsom’s office.

In order to receive the books, the children must be registered with her Imagination Library programexpanding to California.

Parton was inspired to create the free book program by her own illiterate father.

More than 2.4 million children statewide will be eligible for the program beginning in June 2023.
