Donalds DC Office Receives Copy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Republican Representative Byron Donalds’ Washington, DC office received a copy of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s classic novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

“Today my Washington DC office received a copy of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s world famous book ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ tweet stated on the Congressman’s Twitter account @RepDonaldsPress.

GOP Rep. Burgess Owens of Utah called the stunt “a clear example of bullies, cowards, intellectual midgets and racists thriving in the shadow of anonymity.”

“‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ is a book everyone should read,” Darrell B. Harrison, director of digital platforms, Grace to You tweeted. “Only those unfamiliar with the gospel narrative would view this book with such hateful and malicious intent.”

Earlier this month, after Choose twice running for California Republican Kevin McCarthy to become Speaker of the House, Donalds joined the ranks of more than a dozen GOP lawmakers who voted against McCarthy. In many rounds of voting, all or some of McCarthy’s opponents voted for Donalds. Donalds voted for Ohio Republican Jim Jordan in the third round and for himself from the fourth through the eleventh rounds. He and many others in the group voted for McCarthy beginning in the 12th round, although McCarthy did not accept the speakership until the 15th round secured when six lawmakers in attendance voted.

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri called Donalds “a prop.”

“FWIW, @ByronDonalds is not a historic candidate for Speaker. He’s a prop. Despite being black, he supports a political agenda aimed at upholding and maintaining white supremacy. His name in the mix isn’t progress — it’s pathetic,” Bush said tweeted.

“FWIW, no one has asked @CoriBush for her opinion on this matter. Before you judge my agenda, let’s have a debate about the guidelines and the results. Until then, don’t be a cancer in the barrel!” Donalds tweeted.

Donalds, a Florida Republican, has served as US Congressman since 2021.
