‘Don’t make me kill you – because I will’: Military veteran holds an armed police suspect at gunpoint until police arrive

A military veteran held an armed police pursuit suspect at gunpoint in College Park, Georgia earlier this week until police arrived and told the alleged perpetrator, “Don’t make me kill you — because I will.” WAGA TV reported.

What happened?

Surveillance cameras at Feeding GA Families — a food bank — captured the moment when a volunteer burst into the break room on Monday night, and manager William Joyner announced that someone had just crossed the parking lot with a gun, the station said.

Joyner is an Army veteran, and he knew exactly what to do, WAGA said.

The station said he grabbed his gun, put it in the chamber and went outside.

It didn’t take long for him to catch up with the person in question.

“I told him to get down, the police are coming – ‘Just get on your knees with your hands up,'” Joyner told WAGA.

Joyner said the suspect – later identified by police as 20-year-old Jordan Shelley – refused to show him one of his hands, the station reported.

“His hand was sliding down to the gun the whole time,” Joyner told WAGA. “I told him, ‘Don’t make me kill you, because I will.'”

Fortunately, a College Park police officer arrived at the scene before things escalated further, the station said.

What else do we know?

Police told WAGA that Shelley — as well as 21-year-old James Green — fled police in a stolen car on the Roosevelt Highway just before 5 p.m. Monday.

They wrecked the vehicle near Herschel Road, destroying a bus stop in the process, the station said.

Officers quickly got greens, WAGA said, but Shelley drove across the railroad tracks onto West Point Avenue and then into the Feeding GA Families parking lot.

Shelley and Green both face obstruction charges, while Green has also been charged with theft and criminal damage to property, the station said.
