After spending 15 years in development hell, the actor-producer’s passion project finally arrived in October, where it divided opinion on several fronts. Critics left Man in Black’s debut cold, but fans couldn’t get enough, and Johnson repeatedly stated that he made the film primarily for him.

On the other side of the coin, a tepid run at the box office has prompted questions Black Adam‘s profitability, with The Rock doing itself a disservice by constantly weighing and drawing comparisons to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the past few days, the leading man has easily opened up about the bad fuss and “toxic culture” surrounding DC at the moment, with his latest comments on Twitter urging his supporters to tune out the noise and focus on the positive to concentrate.

It’s starting to feel like a foregone conclusion that Johnson’s plans for sequels, spin-offs, and crossovers will emerge in the aftermath Black Adam are dead in the water, especially when his dreams of a showdown against Henry Cavill’s Superman vanish in a cloud of controversial smoke.

Will it be a one-off contribution to the World’s Biggest Star franchise, or does Teth-Adam have a future as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU? Only time will tell, but things aren’t looking good at the moment.
