Eastbound 91 Freeway in Corona reopens early due to resurfacing work

CORONA, California (CNS) — The eastbound 91 Freeway in downtown Corona reopened Sunday afternoon, more than a dozen hours ahead of schedule, as crews continued their resurfacing work.

The full eastbound closure began at 10 p.m. Friday between Lincoln Avenue and Main Street, with all five lanes initially expected to be out of service until 5 a.m. Monday, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

Officials said the third weekend’s closure was necessary for ongoing operations related to the $12.6 million “91 Refresh Project,” which includes resurfacing lanes, modifying retaining walls and repairing concrete barriers on both sides of the highway 91 included.

Previous closures were on the weekends of September 16-19 and September 30-October 10. 3.

Crews have repaved lanes and made other changes, officials said.

The project should be completed by December. It was not immediately known if additional shutdowns might be required by then.

Motorists can obtain up-to-date information on the closure at www.rctc.org/91refresh.
