Elon Musk confirms he will step down as Twitter CEO

Elon Musk‘s admittedly short tenure at Twitter was a bit of a mess to say very at least. With more than half the staff, the dissolution of the Trust and Safety Council and a sharp rise in hate speech, the already ailing social media platform has become even more toxic and hellish. Now that the masses have voiced their desire for Musk to go, perhaps he is doing just that.

Musk’s desire to take over Twitter came out of utter hubris, and it seemed even Musk himself realized he wasn’t ready for the job before he even got it, as he tried to delay his promised takeover of the company. Borrowing from banks Morgan and Stanley and Bank of America, among others, allowed Musk to complete the deal, although the market has since swollen, particularly for risky tech deals, according to CNBC.

Now it might seem like the tech mogul is looking for a way out, as he foolishly posted a poll on his website asking the general public whether he should stay or leave as CEO. To no one’s surprise, the results ended with a 57.5 percent majority of over 17 million voters saying he should resign. Based on his last tweet, it seems like he’s serious, although we may not see any major changes just yet.

As Musk is implying, taking over Twitter at a time when the company is basically circling the drain is something of a silly deal. In addition to mass layoffs, the company has seen mass strikes as the remaining employees resigned in what has been dubbed “The Great Twitter Exodus.” Since many of the engineers have also vacated their positions, the website is prone to bugs and technical failures.

Not only that, the company has made losses in the last 10 of its 12 years. Not many want to command a ship that appears to have already broken in two.

From the looks of it, Musk is still responsible and for a while seemed to pretend it never happened, even going so far as to agree with people that maybe the poll was rigged… a poll he created… on his own website.

Now we’ll have to wait and see if a worthy leader shows up to take the role and try to somehow glue the faulty location back together, or if Musk just has to keep going despite the engines failing. The lower levels are flooded and all personnel have jumped overboard. Well, if no other candidates come forward, maybe at least Snoop Dogg is available.
