Elon Musk says audio and video calls are coming in on Twitter/X

Ever wanted to call someone on Twitter (sorry, X)? You’ll get your chance soon.

According to Twitter/X owner Elon Musk, the company is in the process of launching video and audio calling.

In a tweet on Thursday, Musk also listed some features of the feature: It will work on iOS, Android, Mac and PC, he wrote, and it doesn’t require a phone number.

Musk hasn’t said anything about when the feature might roll out, other than that it’s “coming.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of audio and video calling on Twitter/X. The company’s designer Andrew Conway divided Screenshots of the feature in action in July.

In the screenshot, the audio and video call options are added to the top left of the DM screen. There is no information on whether this feature will only be available for Blue subscribers.

Musk calls video and audio calls on Twitter/X “unique” as he believes X is the “effective global address book.” For us it makes more sense to call people you already know and have in your address book and most of us do this either directly or through an app like WhatsApp which is also available on all major platforms.

However, the audio and video calls are another step toward Musk’s vision of X becoming the “everything app” that encompasses chat, calls, banking, payment services, and more.
