Laura Shaw, who produces the hit ITV soap, has revealed what exactly viewers can expect.

Speaking to The Sun, she revealed there’s a new baby on the way, a cheeky fling and a host of new characters.

Special Dingle episodes

Viewers can look forward to special episodes centered around one of the series’ most popular families.

Laura teased them and said they would be “unforgettable” with fans.

She said: “I think pretty much all of the Dingles will be involved and the episodes have been shot in a slightly different way to our usual style and, true to form, we have played with the format a bit.”

“Many secrets will be revealed and all the cast and crew involved in filming were absolutely thrilled. After watching the final episodes myself last week, I think it will be very memorable.”

Health history

The show will tackle an important health issue currently being kept top secret by bosses.

Laura teased that the diagnosis will have a major impact on the character’s life, including that of her family.

She explained: “We work closely with a great charity who have been with us every step of the way.”

“It’s going to be quite a long storyline. It will extend over a period of months, years. Remember Ashley’s dementia story, it will be like that.”

New characters

Laura said: “We’ve also had some new people join us. You will soon meet Anil Goutam who plays Amit – a new character who joins us as part of the Sharma family.”

“Obviously, not long ago we found out that Rishi is not actually Jai’s biological father, but Jai’s father is actually Amit, who is Rishi’s brother and Suni’s father. So of course we didn’t want to leave that up long before we brought in Amit.

“What you will see with Amit is quite a dark and complex character and although we see that Suni wants to stick around, could Suni end up regretting that? Is Amit hiding another secret that threatens to tear the entire family apart?”

New baby

The soap boss also revealed that Emmerdale will welcome a new baby in the coming months.

As we already know, Dawn and Billy are pregnant and awaiting the birth of their little bundle of joy.

Laura didn’t want to reveal who would give birth to the mysterious newborn.

Affair storyline

Soaps simply wouldn’t be soaps without a saucy affair storyline – and scriptwriters have a queue.

Without naming names, Laura revealed that one of the characters is currently very happily married…

She teased: “It will affect many of our villagers. It will also ultimately lead to a newcomer joining the show, which I can’t tell you about yet because it won’t be until next year, but we’re very excited about it here.

“It will be explosive and this newcomer will cause turmoil in the village.”

Christmas

As you’d expect, there’s plenty of drama in the village this Christmas.

The Emmerdale boss has said this year’s storylines have a different tone to recent years.

Laura hinted: “We have some exciting plans between now and Christmas, but I’m definitely sworn to secrecy!”

“What I can tell you is that in recent years we have done a slightly looser, fluffier Emmerdale Christmas, but this one has a very different tone.”

“A lot of it is more unusual for us at Christmas and I can tell you that certainly not every one of our villagers will be eating their turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas Day.”
