Male actors from the HBO corporate drama claimed three of the eight spots in this year’s Emmy contest Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, each worthy of second careers: Matthew Macfadyen as Shiv’s once pathetic, now powerful husband, Tom; Kieran Culkin as the self-proclaimed “slim pup” Roman Roy; and Nicholas Braun as lanky and goofy cousin Greg. (For the record: last year’s winner in this category, The crown‘s Tobias Menzies, is not eligible as the Netflix drama takes place between seasons.)

But they’re not the only co-stars in the mix. The dystopian sci-fi drama from Apple TV+ severance pay has two veteran actors in the running: John Turturro as corporate loyalist Irving (he won an Emmy for guest appearance in 2004 monk); and Christopher Walken as Burt of Irving’s secret office. Also, Netflix is ultra-violent Squid Game submits two first-time contestants: Park Hae-soo as Cho Sang-woo; and Oh Young-soo, as Oh Il-nam. Rounding out the field is Billy Crudup, who won the 2020 Emmy for his work as oily network executive Cory Ellison on Apple TV+ The morning show.
