Eyvin Hernandez case: Los Angeles lawyer jailed in Venezuela asks Biden not to forget him

MIAMI– A Los Angeles attorney jailed in Venezuela is asking the Biden government for help, saying in a jail message he feels forgotten by the US government as he faces prosecution by one of the nation’s greatest adversaries.

Eyvin Hernandez, who has been incarcerated for five months, describes in the recording how he spent the past 15 years as an employee of the Los Angeles County Office of Public Defenders dedicating himself to public service to secure fair treatment for often destitute clients .

“No one should be abandoned in their time of greatest need and when they are most vulnerable,” he said in the nearly two-minute recording provided by Hernandez’s family to The Associated Press. “However, I don’t feel that my government feels that way about me.”

In a calm voice, Hernandez said he and other Americans detained in Venezuela — there are at least 10, including five oil executives and three veterans — feel “as if our government has let us down.”
