Family confirms a Canadian-Israeli woman who went missing after a music festival is now dead

A Canadian-Israeli woman who was initially reported missing after Hamas militants attacked a music festival in Israel last weekend is dead. The attack killed more people and Hamas reportedly kidnapped several participants at the event.

Shir Georgy, 22, disappeared after Hamas carried out a surprise attack on the Tribe of Nova music festival in southern Israel on October 7. Yahoo News reported that Palestinian militants attacked the event, killing at least 260 people.

Georgy’s aunt, Michal Bouganim, expressed her grief on Instagram after receiving the news of her niece’s death. The family reportedly planned to hold a funeral in Israel over the weekend.

The Instagram post said: “My family has received the terrible news. It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the murder of our beloved Shir. Funeral details to follow.”

There were a number of comments under the post expressing their condolences for the family’s loss. One Instagram user said: “There is not a word about this madness in any language I know. It’s unfair, it’s beyond sad and as a mother my heart hurts for you. I live very far away from you and yet.” I hope that the sincere love and prayers I send you can bring some comfort. Hold on to the beautiful memories, they can never be taken away.”

More condolences were posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Pierre Poilievre, MP for Carleton in Canada, wrote: “I am thinking of the family and friends of Canadian-Israeli Shir Georgy, who was brutally murdered by the terrorist death cult Hamas. May her memory be a blessing.”

Georgy is now the fourth Canadian to be killed in the Hamas attack on Israel. Others include Ali Vital-Kaploun, 33; Ben Mizrachi, 22; and Alexandre Look.

Many Canadians have been pushing for the government to find a way to get Canadians out of Gaza. The initial attempt to get Canadians out of the area via the Rafah border crossing into Egypt has reportedly failed Globe and mail.

The U.S. government has also been slow to formulate a plan to get Americans out of the high-risk area. Glenn Beck and Cory Mills took matters into their own hands and organized methods to help Americans return home.

It is uncertain how many Americans are stranded abroad.
