DORAL, FL. (WSVN) – A South Florida family is desperate for answers.
It has been almost a year since her loved one was gunned down in cold blood.
According to the police, it was a dispute over a parking space. Now they’re looking for the man who they say pulled the trigger.
“It’s been a year. If you don’t want to report him, hire yourself,” said Shereka Butts, the victim’s mother. “The children, they miss their father. He has many questions. We only demand justice.”
Demetrius Harris was shot dead at his home in Naranja in July 2021.
“He was someone who stopped fights. He was the one who brought calm and peace,” Butts said.
It apparently began as an argument with a neighbor over a parking spot in the Hidden Grove community, off Southwest 270th Street.
“Through testimony, we were able to identify Mr. Joshua Campos as the perpetrator of the murder,” said Oscar Andino, Miami-Dade Police Detective.
Since the fatal shooting, Joshua Campos has been on the run, and detectives believe he may have had the help of a woman named Maxine McCord.
“It’s possible he left Florida,” Adino said, “and he could still be in the United States.”
Almost a year has passed and the family is still in pain, bereft of happiness and an unwritten future.
“Mother’s Day just ended and I was laying in bed remembering my son crawling in my tummy,” Butts said. “It brought me back to his first birthday and I just feel completely robbed. Please give me the peace of mind to know what happened that day. Please I beg you.”
If you have any information about the duo, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and be eligible for a bounty of up to $5,000.
