Fans love Funky Kong cameo in new Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer

Funky Kong will be the unlikely fan favorite of the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie after the character was spotted in the background of the film’s second trailer.

So little information has been revealed about Funky Kong’s role in the film that we don’t even know who is voicing the character or if the monkey in the sunglasses will have anything other than a brief cameo in the film. But that didn’t stop fans from going absolutely insane when they spotted his distinctive silver tones shimmering in the backdrop of a kart race on Rainbow Road.

Taking to Twitter, fans couldn’t contain their excitement as they shared screenshots of the trailer, which showed the Funky Kong character in what appeared to be a rocket-equipped dune buggy.

Another Twitter user also spotted what he thought was Kiddy Kong, an even more obscure character from the Donkey Kong country game franchise.

On the other hand, are we sure we have the right Funky Kong? Another Twitter user pointed out that there are two silver-toned Kong characters in the same scene from the trailer.

But maybe the second one is just Diddy Kong wearing sunglasses, another fan suggested.

Funky Kong was first released in 1994 Donkey Kong country Video game as a non-playable character that helped you warp into different worlds. He’s been a consistent, if not a little less visible, presence in various games since then, most recently in 2014 Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Frost.
