Family speaks out after father and son killed in Brooklyn apartment

NEW YORK — Police are investigating after a father and son were fatally shot in a New York City apartment building – allegedly by their neighbor who was fed up with the noise.

According to authorities, they were found on the fourth floor of the Brooklyn apartment building shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Their downstairs neighbor apparently got tired of the noise and went upstairs before pulling out a gun and shooting them both, police said.

Family members identified the victims as 47-year-old Bladimy Mathurin and his 27-year-old son Chinwai Mode.

Marie Delilles said the downstairs resident was banging on the ceiling and was angry about the noise coming from her apartment. She said an argument escalated before the suspect fired nine shots at the victims in front of her 10-year-old.

The family, originally from Haiti, downsized their apartment, which was an adjustment to accommodate Delilles’ younger children.

There have been arguments about noise for years.

“Children make noise all the time; That doesn’t mean someone has to come up with a gun and take someone’s life,” said family friend Mickael Louis.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Rep. Monique Chandler-Waterman assists the grieving family as they ask for safety. The deputy said she plans to work with police to ensure the family’s safety as the search for the suspect continues.

Now the family holds on to memories.

“My son is a good boy; he’s not violent,” Delillies said. “My husband has no gun, no gun. Why would you bring your gun to shoot my family? Why would you bring a gun to tear my family apart?”
