Fearless: Matt Walsh explains God’s absence in documentary ‘What Is a Woman’

Less than a week after its release, Matt Walsh’s documentary What Is a Woman? streamed to the top of the charts and became the most-watched home film in June. The film, which challenges members of the transgender revolution to answer a simple question, resonated with audiences.

Walsh joined “Fearless with Jason Whitlock‘ to discuss the film’s success and answer Jason’s only criticism of the project: Where is Jesus?

Whitlock says his big takeaway from “What’s a Woman?” is that truth is the enemy of the transgender movement. He asked Walsh how a film based on the search for objective truth could leave God out of this discussion.

“The first thing I would say is that when you come to the truth, don’t ignore God. There is no way to speak the truth… to speak the truth – to defend the truth – and at the same time take God out of it. When you take out God, you take out truth, right? So they go hand in hand.”

Walsh claims that if God had been portrayed as the factor driving the search for answers to his question, the entire film would have been rejected and disregarded by the left.

“My wife could have quoted Genesis…” says Walsh. “And the reason we didn’t do that is because we didn’t think … [that] In order to achieve what you want to achieve, it was necessary and what I didn’t want was to give the left an escape route at the very end.”

Although it is the most-watched documentary at home and has received a fresh score of 97% from the audience Rotten Tomatoes, not a single film critic has offered a review of the documentary. To date, viewers have written over 2,500 reviews of “What Is a Woman?”

“I think if we ended up with a sermon at the very end, [or] We’d ended up with a Bible quote or when I went to a minister instead of my wife for the answer and he said something spiritual to me,” Walsh explained. “I think that we would then get all kinds of criticisms from mainstream critics so they could fall down on this point and say, ‘All you see this is all just Bible banging, and to be a critic this gender ideology you have to be a Christian.’”

Whitlock said that kind of controversy and reaction would have been great publicity for the documentary.
