‘Ferrari’ First Look: Adam Driver is unrecognizable as a racing driver

Penelope Cruz, Patrick Dempsey and Shailene Woodley star in Michael Mann’s upcoming Ferrari biopic.

From the “House of Gucci” to the engines of “Ferrari”, Adam Driver once again expresses his Italian accent.

The Oscar nominee plays Enzo Ferrari, the real-life ex-racer whose turbulent marriage to Laura Ferrari, played by Penelope Cruz, causes him to gamble all on one last race. Michael Mann is directing Ferrari from a screenplay co-written by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job).

The four-time Oscar nominee is producing the film with his Moto Pictures alongside PJ van Sandwijk and John Lesher, as well as John Friedberg, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, Gareth West and Thomas Hayslip, with significant support from producers Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi and their production services company ILBE , and are joined by executive producer Niels Juul.

The cast also includes Shailene Woodley, Patrick Dempsey, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon and Gabriel Leone.

The official synopsis reads: “Ferrari” takes place in the summer of 1957. Ex-racing driver Ferrari is in crisis. The company he and his wife Laura built from scratch 10 years ago is on the brink of bankruptcy. Their stormy marriage struggles with the grief of one son and the approval of another. He decides to counter his losses by rolling dice in a race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the legendary Mille Miglia.

Proudly filming on location in Italy, Mann brings his passion for the extraordinarily vivid characters who have created a fusion of the art in motion and racing prowess that is Ferrari to an epic cinematic experience set in the volatile and dangerous world of motorsport in plays in the 1950s.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt directed the film, along with Oscar-nominated production designer Maria Djurkovic, twice Oscar-nominated costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini and twice Oscar-winning editor Pietro Scalia.

The film is based on the book “Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine” by Brock Yates; Writer, director and producer Mann directed a 2008 commercial for the Californian Ferrari sports cars.

Outside of Ferrari, Mann is also developing a sequel to Heat based on his novel. “It’s totally planned to be a movie. Is it a humble film? no Is it a very expensive series? no It’s going to be a big movie,” Mann said previously.
