Final Fantasy XI developers are talking about the game’s 20th anniversary and preparing more reward campaigns

Oh look Giddy.

There’s a lot to celebrate when a game turns 20, and Final Fantasy XI celebrated all month. It’s still celebrating with a new interview available on the Official PlayStation Blog, which makes sense considering the game’s original launch was on the PlayStation 2. Yes, that was a long time ago, and director Yuji Fujito even notes that one of the big challenges in supporting the continuation of the game is that it was developed with old Hardware that you have determined cannot be replaced if it breaks a decade before. So, you know… they’re trying to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Obviously, however, it hasn’t broken yet; In fact, another series of bonus rewards campaigns are planned for the game starting on June 11th, with larger drops from sigil/crest battlegrounds, higher drop rates on sigils and crests, special Gobbie Mystery Box watch faces and improvements at the chocobo burrow. You know how to do it after playing the game for a while, with a whole load of extra rewards for things you would otherwise do. It’s always fun.
