However, after a frantic search, Bexley was found on Monday. Good news for an owner worried a reunion might never happen.
Mason Gray had hoped their move to Los Angeles would be the start of an incredible adventure.
The traveling pediatric nurse bought a camper two weeks ago and drove it with her dog, Bexley, from Florida to California to work at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
She returned to where she’d parked her motorhome early Sunday morning, only to find it gone – stolen, with Bexley inside.
“I can neither eat nor sleep. I’m just devastated. I’m so heartbroken,” Gray told Eyewitness News on Monday. “I just want this to be over. This is a nightmare. I thought that wasn’t going to happen.”
She’s spent the last two days trying to find them and managed to find security videos of the dog nappers. Just after midnight, someone hitched their trailer to a blue pickup truck and drove away with Bexley.
“Bexley is my world and at this point, she’s all I care about. I’m just wondering if she’s okay? is she safe Is she fed, is she cared for? said Grau. “I was just looking all the time.”
Unfortunately, the truck’s license plate isn’t visible in the video, but the camper has Florida license plates and is fairly distinctive with “Compact” written in red.
It was filled with Gray’s belongings, from her guitar and piano to all of her clothes, her camera, and her television. She said none of this mattered. The only thing she wanted back was Bexley.
Her wish came true on Monday evening. Bexley was in the safe hands of Los Angeles police officers when Gray arrived for the incredible reunion.
LAPD also owns the RV. Details of Bexley and the camper’s recovery were not immediately known.
