James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe is slowly taking shape through his Gods and Monsters arc. The first project to debut under Gunn’s leadership, creature commands, may officially have its first cast member, by the way The purge: anarchy And Captain America: The Winter Soldier Star Frank Grillo.
While opening up about how his Marvel Cinematic Universe character Crossbones has been treated by those in power, Grillo also confirmed that he had jumped to DC. As the star has fed into rumors and speculation that he will be bringing Rick Flag Sr. to life creature commands, we can more or less connect the dots and firmly assume that Grillo will bring one of the DCU’s first characters to life. He tells ComicBook:
“I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is when you see how many people around the world have reacted to Crossbones, and again, he’s been on screen for a darn short time, I think there there is more in it. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed which is why I went to DC.”
Grillo teased his looks in creature commands since February, which will be Gunn’s DCU’s first project to land for the general public. It’s an animated series that also features a return of a familiar face from Gunn’s suicide squad.
While we’re still a long way from where Gods and Monsters officially launches, we’re only a few months away The Lightning, which can serve as DC continuity resetting means. It hits theaters on June 16, 2023.
