Gas Prices: The average price falls below $5 per gallon in the Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) — The average self-service gallon of regular gasoline in Orange County fell below $5 on Tuesday for the first time since March 3, falling 4.4 cents to $4,959.

Orange County’s median price has fallen for 18 straight days and 49 times in 55 days since rising to a record $6.357 on Oct. 5 and falling $1.398, including nine-tenths of a cent on Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The median price in Orange County is 18.6 cents lower than a week ago and 55.9 cents lower than a month ago, but 27.4 cents higher than a year ago.

In San Bernardino County, the median price on Tuesday was $4.98, while in Riverside County it was $4.93.

Los Angeles County’s median price fell for the 19th straight day, down 4 cents to $5,074, its lowest amount since March 3. In the 55 days, it has fallen 52 times since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, including $1.42 1.7 cents Monday.

The Los Angeles County median price is 18 cents lower than a week ago and 57 cents lower than a month ago, but 36.3 cents higher than a year ago.

The national median price fell 2.5 cents to $3,521 for the 20th straight day. It’s 11.5 cents less than a week ago and 24 cents less than a month ago, but 12.7 cents more than a year ago.

The national median price has fallen 28.4 cents over the past 20 days, including nine tenths of a cent on Monday. It is $1,495 lower than the record $5,016 set on June 14th.

“Last week, as millions of Americans took to the streets for Thanksgiving, we saw gasoline prices continue to fall coast-to-coast, setting a new record for the largest single-day drop on the national average,” said Patrick De Haan , Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations.

“All metrics are looking very positive for motorists as this week is likely to see further falls in fuel prices, with many areas falling to their lowest levels since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.”
