General Hospital brings back the Nurse Ball and honors the late Sonya Eddy

When General Hospital Shortly before its 60th anniversary, the traditional ABC sudser has a lot planned.
It was announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena — as part of a panel featuring EP Frank Valentini that stars Genie Francis (who plays Laura), Maurice Benard (Sonny), Kristina Wagner (Felicia), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth), Donnell Turner (Curtis), Nicholas Chavez (Spencer), Tabyana Ali (Trina) and others – that GH launches its anniversary program at the end of March with a special episode honoring the late Sonya Eddy, who played head nurse Epiphany Johnson on the series from 2006 until her death in December.
Then, the week of April 3rd, GH will bring back the beloved Nurses Ball, a (fictional) charity gala dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event debuted in June 1994 (where it was co-directed by Lucy Coe and Bobbie Jones) and has since been held 15 times, though not since August 2020.
The TCA press tour also teased that after the Nurses Ball, “Port Charles icons are uniting to stop a legendary menace from the past” and that (perhaps related?) serial vet/Daytime Emmy winner Jane Elliot is returning Her role as the legendary Tracy Quartermaine will appear sometime in April.
General Hospital debuted on April 1, 1963. ABC also released a promo below that looks back at some of the show’s biggest moments over the past 60 years.
