George Soros supports Stacey Abrams’ campaign for Georgia governor with a $1 million donation

Left-wing billionaire George Soros thrown $1 million behind Democrat Stacey Abrams’ second campaign to win Georgia governorship.

The donation went to a political action committee in March, before a judge ruled that Abrams had to win the Democratic primary on May 24 before she could use the funds for her campaign.

A filing with the Federal Elections Commission documented the donation from Democracy PAC II, a federal committee organized to influence the 2022 election. Soros has funded the committee with funds worth $125 million.

Soros has also personally donated to Abrams’ campaign. The financier and his family donated about $60,000 directly to their campaign.

First formed in 2019, the Democracy PAC has pledged more than $80 million to support the 2020 election, according to a report in Politico.

Among those elections was that of Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón, who embarked on criminal justice reform that many claim started a crime wave across Southern California. Gascón has faced recalls from local residents and fierce opposition from law enforcement officials who oppose his relaxation of criminal penalties.

Georgia has not been led by a democratic governor for almost two decades. In most current survey, Abrams received support from just 45% of the state’s residents, while incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp received 50% support. However, Kemp must defeat a major challenge presented by former Senator David Perdue. If Perdue won, Abrams would only need to overcome a 3% deficit, according to the same poll.

In February, Abrams was forced to apologize after a photo she promoted sparked public outrage in which she smiled without a mask while schoolchildren and teachers stood behind her in masks. She initially defended the photo, accusing her opponents of soiling her, before apologizing and admitting it was a mistake.
