The annual Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series returns this season, beginning with two free workout classes on Thursday, June 2nd. Two back-to-back training courses will be held in Copley Square starting at 5:30pm and attendees will receive a free giveaway. Registration is required for this free event.
Each summer, Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) present the Summer Fitness Series sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Classes are held in select public parks across the city and are also streamed online. This includes Yoga, HIIT, Zumba, Afrobeats dance and more.
Summer Series classes run June 5 through October 1 (excluding July 4 and Labor Day) and for the past few years have included 25 different classes per week in different boroughs. Through these free and open classes, BPHC aims to break down the barriers to healthy living and encourage Bostonians to bring public parks outside during the warm months.
“Fitness classes in parks throughout Boston provide an opportunity for regular physical activity, which is critical to a healthy lifestyle,” Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, said in a statement. “We want to make it easy and fun to get outside and be active, and we’re thrilled to be working with the city to offer classes for people of all ages, abilities and interests.”
Register here for the free launch event in Copley Square and stay up to date with the weekly Summer Fitness Series schedule here. A full schedule for this summer is available at boston.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/boston-parks-fitness-series.
