“Glass Onion” cracks Netflix’s top 10 most-watched films after 10 days

But Rian Johnson’s film is still behind “Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up” in that time span.

Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has managed to crack the top 10 most-watched movies of all time on Netflix after just 10 days on the streamer.

Since its release on December 23, the mystery and comedy film has been watched for 209.40 million hours, including 127.25 million in the week commencing December 26, putting it at the top of the English film charts worldwide. Netflix also says around 90 million households will watch Glass Onion in its first 10 days, and of course that doesn’t include the viewers who saw it when it was in theaters for a week over Thanksgiving.

So say goodbye to The Kissing Booth, whose Glass Onion will jump from the 10th all-time spot this week after clocking up its 209.2 million viewing hours in the film’s first 28 days. And since Netflix ranks its films based on their first month (28 days) of performance, Glass Onion is in good shape to climb further up the all-time film list.

However, it could lag behind both Dwayne Johnson action film Red Notice (364.02 million) and Adam McKay’s satire Don’t Look Up (359.79 million), both of which are currently the top 2 films as Netflix says “Glass Onion” is still chasing these two movies after the streamer’s first 10 days of release.

Given that Netflix spent $450 million on the rights to “Glass Onion” and a third Johnson film in the franchise, one could argue that it might be a disappointment to reach anything less than #1. But then the film also grossed an estimated $15 million in its one week in theaters (Netflix doesn’t disclose box office earnings), which would easily make it the top-grossing Netflix film in theaters, even ahead of Red Notice and 2022 other expensive blockbuster “The Gray Man”. There’s almost certainly money left on the table, too, and Johnson himself is pushing to bring Glass Onion back to theaters.

As an added bonus, the 2019 original Knives Out (Lionsgate) is still the world’s No.3 English language film this week and has been watched for 16.76 million hours.

Glass Onion stars Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, and the film stars Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr.
