Gov. Kay Ivey signs bill regulating transgender athletics

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WIAT) — On Tuesday, Gov. Kay Ivey signed House Bill 261, which will regulate transgender student sports in public colleges and universities.

According to the draft law, such students only have to play with their biological sex.

“Look, if you’re a natural male, you’re not going to compete in women’s and girls’ sports in Alabama,” Ivey said in a statement Tuesday. “It’s all about fairness, plain and simple.”

Until nowIn 2021, Ivey signed legislation banning birth males from participating in K-12 girls’ sports.
