Groundbreaking planned for South Tampa affordable housing development

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Tampa Housing Authority will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new affordable housing property in South Tampa Wednesday morning.
It will be called Casa Bel-Mar and will be located at 4003 South Manhattan Avenue.
The resort will consist of 100 units, of which 63 will be one bedroom units and 37 will be two bedroom units. The apartments are rented at market conditions to residents who earn 30 to 80% of the region’s average income.
THA executives say 75% of units are already reserved for residents who are on the agency’s Section 8 waiting list.
“It’s tough, we have people on our waiting list waiting for affordable housing, but it will take time,” said Jerome Ryans, president of the THA. “People need to understand one thing – that public-private partnerships are the way to create affordable housing in this community.”
According to a press release, the ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m.
