‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star opens up with groundbreaking holiday special reveal

actor Pom Klementieff shared her take on the massive reveal about her character in The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special.

Per Collider, Klementieff was smitten with the family ties that bind Mantis and Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). It turns out she’s known about it for years but has had to keep quiet.

“I’m looking forward to the big reveal at the end. It reinforces the connection between Mantis and Star-Lord and is really cute. So I’m happy when people see that. And it’s also like a secret that I’ve had to keep to myself for years. So I’m relieved it’s going to be out there and some fans have already speculated about it, so it’s cool.”

In the Christmas special, Peter is devastated by the absence of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña). It also comes to light that Yondu Udonta spoiled his Christmas holidays when he was a kid. Mantis and Drax (Dave Bautista) are moved to cheer up their friend by retrieving a special gift from Earth for him.

A warm and compassionate gesture from Mantis takes on a deeper meaning when it is revealed that she is Ego’s (Kurt Russell) daughter and therefore Peter’s half-sister. Regardless of their family relationship, the siblings share a wonderful friendship.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special captures the truth that family ties can grow from love as much as from blood relationship. Sometimes families are born by choice, not birth. At best, a family creates spaces in which people can thrive in a spirit of trust, acceptance, and respect.

The beauty of Mantis’ relationship with Star-Lord is that while they both bear the burden of being Ego’s children, they have each other. They are no longer alone as they walk through life with a parent figure tainted by an insatiable appetite for self-exaltation that dwarfs his ability to recognize or meet the needs of his children or others.
