Gunned down nine in Cincinnati when gunman opened fire in front of bar

A gunman opened fire outside a bar in a Cincinnati neighborhood early Sunday morning, leaving nine injured, police said.

The Cincinnati Police Department said the shooting took place around 1:40 a.m. outside Mr. Pitiful’s bar in Over-the-Rhine, the Enquirer reported, where an officer fired a shot at the suspect while the person fled.

It is currently unknown if the suspect was hit by the officer, but all of the victims are expected to survive their injuries. Lt. Col. Mike John said most people suffered “lower extremity injuries.” United States today.

“Fortunately, every shot is expected to survive. Members of a civilian response team, including the officer who shot the gunman, did a great job this morning controlling the chaotic and dangerous scene,” said Cincinnati Police Union President Dan Hils, adding that the suspect “part a great, unruly multitude”.

“It’s a bit unusual when we don’t know for sure whether or not the person the officer shot was hit,” John said, according to the Enquirer. The lieutenant colonel added the gunman was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants.

Lindsey Swadner, the owner of a bar called The Hub and one of the witnesses at the scene, said she heard about 20 to 30 gunshots fired a few seconds apart. People panicked and began to seek shelter, with some finding safety in their establishment.

“I made sure everyone was inside, I walked up the street to see what happened and of course there were more gunshot victims, I’m not sure how many,” she told local news station WLWT 5. “I saw two men lying on the floor, kind of holding her leg… There was another man sitting in a chair who couldn’t seem to move.”

Swadner continued: “There was another man on the ground, I’m pretty sure they were giving him chest compressions or someone was on top of him. I went back there maybe 15 minutes later to try and pick someone up down the road. Everything was locked or taped up. They tried to get them more tape, they ran out of tape, and then the man in the chair had to be lifted out of the chair, not realizing he had been shot.

Meanwhile, another shooting broke out in the city’s nearby central business district, injuring two other people. According to the police, however, it is currently not known whether the two shootings are related.

More gun violence in Ohio

Another shooting occurred Friday morning in Ohio, killing four people in the Butler Township neighborhood. Police found the victims in different areas and said they are looking for the suspect, who also fled the scene.

The victims included a mother and her 15-year-old daughter, who were found dead in a home, according to a family member, local news station WDTN reported.
