“Love Life” and “The Nevers” will be canceled, and “Gordita Chronicles” will also be withdrawn from service.
HBO Max is cleaning the house again. After the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer pulled over 60 titles from the platform without warning this August – many of them originals developed for the service – a new set of series is being prepared to launch in the next few days, sources have confirmed to IndieWire.
The most famous of these shows is the HBO sci-fi series Westworld, which ended in season 4 this fall after declining ratings. Other shows to be canceled include the HBO sci-fi series The Nevers and rom-com anthology series Love Life. Similar to the Lionsgate series “Minx,” the pull of these shows effectively also serves as an announcement of the cancellation. According to sources, more lesser-known titles will leave the service in the next few days.
In addition, Claudia Forestieri confirmed on December 9 via Twitter that her series “Gordita Chronicles” would soon be taken off the platform. The coming-of-age comedy premiered on duty in June and was canceled a month later.
Looks like this weekend will be the last hooray for #GORDITACHRONIK
Now watch out before it evaporates @hbomax
*I’m trying very hard not to be bitter about this latest insult, but seriously, it feels like an EX is destroying your photos to ERASE you from memory…

While the removal of HBO Max titles from the service under David Zaslav’s WBD regime is nothing new, “Westworld” and “The Nevers” are two particularly surprising cases, given that they were released for the HBO channel proper and by Warner Bros. Television – In contrast, “Minx” and “Love Life” are by Lionsgate TV, while “Gordita Chronicles” is by Sony. Sources say both shows could end up on a FAST channel (or a free service with ads) that Warner Bros. Discovery is working on developing while continuing their plans to merge HBO Max and Discovery+. These cuts will also come as WBD undergoes a year-end financial review.
Prior to its cancellation, The Nevers was airing Season 1A in 2021, with a six-episode Season 1B expected to premiere later. Production on the second half of the season, which will reportedly conclude the storyline, has already taken place, and it’s unclear if the new episodes will premiere in the series’ new home. The series, which starred Laura Donnelly, Ann Skelly and Olivia Williams as a trio of women working to support an overpowered underclass emerging in Victorian England, has faced numerous hardships during its run, from the pandemic, which paused filming until the departure of its creator Joss Whedon following allegations of workplace harassment on other projects.
Love Life is notable for being the first-ever HBO Max original series to premiere with the streamer in May 2020. Both seasons of the Sam Boyd-created series focused on someone else’s search for love. Season 1 starred Anna Kendrick as Darby Carter while Season 2 was directed by William Jackson Harper as Marcus Watkins. The show received mostly positive reviews, with the second season being seen as an improvement over the first.
Deadline was the first to report the news of Westworld’s impending removal from HBO Max.
