opinion poll Elon Musk has delivered on his promise to follow the results of a Twitter poll asking him if he should remain CEO of the microblogging service – and gave a resounding “YES”.
The site’s owner broke the news to the media by announcing his decision with a tweet.
I will step down as CEO as soon as I find someone stupid enough to take the job! After that, I will just lead the software and server teams.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 21, 2022
The tweet leaves Musk a lot of leeway.
First of all, he may not try (or try very hard) to find a replacement. It’s also conceivable that Musk might be too busy to bother – the part-time liquor, tunneling, space transportation, automotive and flamethrower entrepreneur certainly has a lot to do! So Musk could remain CEO for a long time.
Becoming software chief would also mean that Musk retains tremendous influence on Twitter. The one thing he seems to have done well in his time as owner/CEO is accelerating feature development. Shame on the CEO trying to tell the owner/software boss what belongs at the top of Twitter’s to-do list.
Thirdly, the job description means – great stupidity – that the “talent” pool is so vast that finding the right candidate will be quite a hassle.
The registry so stepped in to help by handpicking a few candidates who we think fit Musk’s criteria and might want the gig.
So go ahead, dear reader, and vote for your favorite bird network CEO!
