Hidden camera captures “adorable” dog’s behavior when owner leaves home

A dog owner who kept coming home to find his bedroom in a mess caught the four-legged culprit on camera.

TikToker jpizzle_97 set up a GoPro after repeatedly scattering clothes around the room and finding his pillows all over the place.

Once the camera was installed, it became clear what was going on — with footage suggesting dogs genuinely miss their owners when they’re gone.

In the video, which has been viewed 6.1 million times, TikToker dog Hank – a German Shepherd/Nova Scotia Retriever mix – can be seen exploring the bedroom before climbing onto the bed and staring intently out the window.

After apparently getting bored with his new vantage point, Hank decides to snoop around in his owner’s closet. A few minutes later, he emerges in a pair of shorts and happily jumps onto the bed with the garment.

With his shorts in his mouth, Hank goes to the four pillows on top of the bed. He then snuggles into the shorts and eventually falls asleep to take a nap while they are snuggled tight against his chest.

Research suggests that dogs really miss their human companions when they go out during the day. A 2011 study in Applied Animal Behavior Science showed that even dogs without separation anxiety would greet their owners with particular enthusiasm and be particularly attentive when they returned home after two hours or more.

For many who watched on social media, Hank’s demeanor and the fact that he took a piece of his owner’s clothing item to sniff instead of a comforter was evidence that he lusted after his human companion.

“Awww they like having your scent around,” wrote Woah.Nellly. “My dog would steal socks.”

Muuullyyy agreed, writing, “He just missed his dad!” Babynayaaaaa posted, “Those are his emotional support shorts.” Valarieem offered a similar theory, “They’re a comfort blanket.

Noting another detail from the clip, Margarita Prasca emphasized that Hank appeared to be “sitting on the edge of the bed,” waiting to make sure his owner “didn’t come back” before getting upset.

Jocelyn Bacon offered an alternative theory for Hank’s behavior, claiming a vet told her it was “a protective thing.” She added, “Your smell is on them so pooch is trying to protect you.”

Jac_of_diamonds, meanwhile, fought back tears. “That brings me to tears!” They write. “They just miss you so much and love you. They want your scent and they want to play.”

DaleLee thought it was the “cutest thing” and Brenda Zendejas commented, “aww how adorable.”

In a follow-up clip, Hank’s owner tried to prevent his antics by closing the closet door.

That didn’t stop the determined dog, who duly opened the closet before running again. Worse, this time he got his paws on some toilet paper.
