High winds uproot a large tree in the West LA neighborhood, crushing several cars

WEST LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Strong winds swept across Southern California overnight, uprooting several trees and causing damage in some neighborhoods.
It was a rude awakening for West Los Angeles resident Teal Nicholson on Monday morning.
A massive tree was uprooted by the winds right outside their home, crushing several cars in its path. No one was injured, but at least three cars were damaged.
“My brother wanted to park right in front of where the tree fell last night and he decided at the last minute to park elsewhere,” she said.
The tree also knocked down several power lines.
Neighbor Sharon Aronoff said while the strong winds are not uncommon for the area, the damage is.
“It’s weird to hear that something is happening so close to my home… I’m just shocked at how big this tree is,” she said.
That wasn’t the only wind damage that occurred overnight. Powerful gusts also uprooted a tree in Santa Monica and another in Hollywood, hitting a garage and destroying several power lines.
It’s winds like these that Aronoff says she keeps an eye on.
“I worry about my garden, but I have big palm trees. I’m not worried about the whole tree being uprooted, but the fronds are quite large and dying,” she added.
On Monday morning, emergency services were in the area to cut down the large trees and remove them from the road.
