Hillsborough County kennels are ‘critically utilized’

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Kennels at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center are full, according to a post from the center Facebook site.

On Tuesday, the shelter said there was an urgent need for foster carers and adopters, and urged residents to consider adopting a dog to help ease the strain.

The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Potential foster carers or adopters can schedule a personal play date to meet their new furry friend.

Fosters must be at least 18 years old and live in Hillsborough County. Potential caregivers can find more information on the procedure on the website Animal shelter website.

Adopting an adult dog costs $85 and adopting a puppy or small dog weighing less than 25 pounds costs $125. Adopters also pay a fee to register their new pet in Hillsborough County.

Residents can learn about pets available for adoption at the Pet Resource Center online kennel.
