Wordle puzzles can prove difficult to solve for newbies and experienced players alike. Happily, news week is here to share some hints and tips for those who would like them.
The objective of the phenomenally popular puzzle game is simple; namely, finding out what the hidden word is in six tries or less.
A color-coded system is used to guide players to the correct answer by letting them know if they have a correct or wrong letter.
If players choose the right letter in the right place, the tile will turn green. If the letter is correct but in the wrong place, it will turn yellow. And if it’s not the right letter, then it turns gray.
While it may sound simple, the Word of the Day often leaves players perplexed.
Wordle was developed by software developer Josh Wardle, who first released the game to the public in October 2021.
Within a few months, Wordle’s active player base grew rapidly from a few dozen to an impressive 45 million daily users.
Wardle said he has no intention of starting a business around Wordle and that he enjoys being able to express himself creatively.
He previously told Protocol, “I made this game, but I had no interest in running a game business. Basically I see myself as an artist, I really enjoy creating things.”
As Wordle established itself as a global phenomenon earlier this year, The New York Times stepped in to purchase the puzzle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.
While Wordle has been hosted on the release’s website since February, it continues to use the same game mechanics that made it popular.
The Statista chart below shows how quickly Wordle has gone from an intimate experience to a global phenomenon in just a few months.
Wordle’s success inspired a number of other puzzle games, including the math-centric Nerdle and the card-based Worldle.
