A Georgia homeowner held an armed teenage gang member at gunpoint until police arrived to arrest him late Wednesday.

The 17-year-old man had a gun when he jumped out of a vehicle at Westside High School – in Macon – and ran away on Wednesday This was announced by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

A Bibb County School campus police officer monitoring vehicles in the carpool line saw the gun and approached the vehicle, authorities said, adding that the teen was running away at the time.

The suspect was identified in the Bibb County Jail and arrest documents as Zyon Rahquez Hardwick The Macon Telegraph reported. Arrest warrants indicate the campus police officer saw Hardwick with a Bushmaster .223 rifle around 2:25 p.m. while sitting in a Toyota in the carpool school’s pickup line, the Telegraph added.

Hardwick is also a “well-known and well-known” member of the 912 Crip/OTS street gang, the newspaper reported, citing the arrest warrants.

A spokesman for the Bibb County School District told the Telegraph the suspect ran into a woods near the Heath Road campus with the gun, prompting the school to be placed on hold.

A multi-agency manhunt ensued, including the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Bibb County School District Campus Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol. the authorities said.

The homeowner held the teenager at gunpoint and he was taken into custody, authorities said.

Deputies have not provided the whereabouts of the homeowner and the teenager at the time of the arrest. WSB TV reported.

Bibb’s sheriff’s warrant noted that Hardwick was arrested with the same rifle he saw in an Oct. 7 Instagram photo taken in the Westside High parking lot, the Telegraph said, adding that Hardwick attended a football game at school that day.

The suspect has been charged carrying weapons within school security zones, at school functions or on school property; criminal activity by street gangs; and possession of a pistol or revolver by a person under the age of 18, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspect is behind bars in the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center. The newspaper said he was being held without bond.

Westside High was closed until the end of the week and students have been asked to log into classes virtually, the Telegraph said.
