Whether you love Disney’s live-action remakes or raise your brow critically every time a new one is announced, the hype is high The little mermaid probably made you a little curious. If you skipped the theatrical debut hoping to throw your own watch party at home, the wait is over. The film is available now on digital platforms and will stream on September 6th.

Here are all the details you need to watch Ariel and friends from the comfort of your couch.

But before we get into how to watch The little mermaid live-action remake, we must answer a burning question…

Is the live action Little Mermaid worth seeing?

Despite all the previous controversies surrounding the film, The little mermaid nevertheless made a splash during its opening weekend, grossing an estimated $569 million worldwide. While Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy did their best to recapture the joyful magic of Ariel and Ursula in the live-action remake of the animated classic, they ultimately received mixed reviews.

Some characters – Ursula in particular – excelled in their performances, but others kind of turned viewers off (ahem, Flounder and Scuttle). According to Mashable film editor Kristy Puchko, there are “some moments of underwater cinematic glory,” but there are also some questionable choices, like the somber, gray color palette, bland glimpses into Prince Eric’s background, and so-so song complements.

“Overall that Little Mermaid has some grandeur, but – like its eponymous heroine – I want moooooooooore!” exclaimed Puchko in her review.

Definitely worth checking out if you’re a die-hard Disney fan, a casual viewer who enjoys the nostalgia of singing along with Ariel and friends under the sea. And for parents with their own little princesses at home, it’s a great choice for family movie night (although we’d recommend watching the film). Super Mario Bros Movie every day instead).
