A Flint, Michigan, high school teacher was hospitalized after a student threw a chair through a classroom Thursday, hitting the teacher in the head.

Mid-MichiganNowCiting Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones, he said the incident occurred at Southwestern Academy High School – which is listed on the website as Southwestern Classical Academy District website.

Jones said in his initial statement Thursday evening that the incident occurred during a Conflict between two studentsMLive reported.

Jones released an updated statement Friday saying the teacher was released from the hospital the same day, is “doing well” and is expected to return to work, MLive said.

“This educator’s resilience and dedication are truly commendable,” Jones wrote, according to MLive.

Jones added that many students, fellow teachers and members of the school community supported the injured teacher, MLive said.

“They consider this teacher a hero and we share their sentiments,” Jones also wrote, MLive reported.

What about the student?

Jones told MLive that the student who threw the chair will be held accountable under the law and the Flint Community Schools Code of Conduct — although it is still unclear what discipline might be applied.

The Flint Police Department and school district did not respond to requests for comment Friday, MLive added.

Flint Community Schools has not confirmed that the video circulating on social media shows the incident, but an investigation has been launched, Mid-MichiganNow said.
