Huge lines snake around Honey Baked Ham stores as Southerners gear up for Thanksgiving
GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC)– It’s a familiar scene the day before Thanksgiving across Southland – a huge line to Honey Baked Ham!
There was a huge line outside the Honey Baked Ham store in Northridge early Wednesday morning. The snake stretched the entire street and even wrapped itself around the building.
The line outside the Glendale Honey Baked Ham location was no better. Some people in line said they waited over two hours even when they arrived at 7am in the morning
Despite the long wait, some customers said it was all part of the Thanksgiving experience.
With grocery bills skyrocketing, consumers are leaning towards hiring the pros for turkey, ham and pie this year.
“I’m all about simplicity and convenience and I’m going to pay for it like most people would think,” said Chris Defelice of La Crescenta.
Over in South Los Angeles, returning customers couldn’t wait to get their hands on the famous 27th Street Bakery sweet potato pie.
27th Street Bakery has been owned by Jeanette Bolden-Pickens’ family for more than 60 years. So she knows what to expect this week — she woke up at 3:30am on Wednesday morning to get ready for the rush.
“We open at 7 a.m., some people are queuing at 6:30 a.m.,” Bolden-Pickens said, adding that she expects to sell nearly 1,200 cakes on Wednesday alone.
And while many have pre-ordered this year, you can still wait in line for a coveted sweet potato pie as a walk-in Thursday. The restaurant opens at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
