Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’ is different from ‘Logan’

Lead actor Ryan Reynolds confirmed that Wolverine’s return will be a “completely separate thing” from the events of 2017’s “Logan.”

Wolverine is back from the dead… sort of.

After it was announced that Hugh Jackman would be reprising his iconic role as X-Men superhero Wolverine for Deadpool 3, lead actor Ryan Reynolds confirmed that the MCU episode would be a “very different thing” from 2017’s Logan becomes wolverine has died.

Jackman admitted he had “a lot of questions” about his character’s return, after which Reynolds explained the canon. “’Logan’ takes place in 2029. A completely different thing,” Reynolds said in a new promotional video. “Logan died in ‘Logan.’ Don’t touch that. What actually happens in our movie is these two damn guys…” before the audio cuts out.

Reynolds closes with, “Thank you, Kevin Feige!” Jackman adds, “Thank you, MCU!”

Deadpool 3 marks the hilarious anti-hero’s first appearance in the MCU after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. The film is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, both of whom have assured fans that under the Disney umbrella, Deadpool hasn’t spoiled the franchise’s famed adult humor.

“They’ve been very supportive in that regard,” Reese explained. “Well, when it comes to a particular joke, when we cross a line, maybe at some point we’ll hear, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of us because obviously we’ve been doing it apart from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. Hopefully it will be a heavenly marriage. But we definitely have their support and that’s a great feeling.”

Deadpool 3 hits theaters on September 6, 2024.

James Mangold, who directed ‘Logan’ and ‘The Wolverine’, reacted to the ‘Deadpool 3’ revelation of Wolverine by sharing a GIF of what fans speculated was a dig of Wolverine’s death scene in ‘Logan’ the character’s revival.

“Oh my god! Everyone chilling,” Mangold later tweeted. “Just kidding! I’m doing well! “Logan” will always be there. Multiverse or prequel, time warp or wormhole, canon or non-canon or even no reason, I can’t wait to see what madness my dear friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman cook up!”
