Ibai breaks Twitch record for most concurrent viewers

Ibai “Ibai” Llanos Garatea broke the Twitch record for most concurrent viewers during his boxing event Velada Del Año II on June 26.

Garatea started his career as a commentator for League of Legends in the Spanish regional league. After a year of casting, he became a content creator for G2 Esports. About a year into his tenure at G2, he left the organization to start his own streaming brand. At the end of 2021 he founded the esports team KOI with professional soccer player Gerard Piqué. Ibai has gone from strength to strength in recent years, going from relative obscurity to one of the most popular content creators in the world.

The event attracted 3.3 million concurrent viewers, beating the previous record of 2.5 million held by the Grefg. Over the course of the stream, Ibai gained over 45,000 subscribers and over 400,000 followers. Ibai was already the biggest Spanish-language streamer in the world before this event, but now its legacy has been cemented. The entire event was uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed below:

La Velada del Año II was a boxing event that competed between Spanish content creators and online personalities. As the title suggests, it was the second event of its kind, with the first taking place in May 2021. This event follows the recent trend of content creators participating in boxing matches for entertainment, with another recent example being iDubbbz’s “Creator Clash” that took place last month.

The official Twitch account tweeted: “HISTORIA. Congratulations to Ibai on setting a new Twitch record by peaking at over 3.3 million simultaneous views during today’s La Velada del Año II boxing and entertainment event.”

This incredible number of viewers is also a testament to how large the Spanish-speaking audience is on Twitch, with Ibai leading the way.
