Innocent driver killed when suspect being chased by Orange County lawmakers crashes into car in Westminster, officials say

WESTMINSTER, Calif. (KABC) — An innocent driver was killed and another man seriously injured after a car chase in Westminster on Friday ended in an accident, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 10 a.m., sheriff’s deputies were chasing a suspect in a black Camaro for fraudulent trademarks, according to the OCSD. The Camaro fled on Newland Street and ran a red light on Trask Avenue in Westminster, crashing into a black BMW traveling eastbound on Trask.

Two people in the BMW were taken to a hospital after the accident. The driver, a 64-year-old man, was pronounced dead at hospital. The passenger, a 54-year-old man, was described as “in critical but stable condition.”

The suspect fled the scene of the crime on foot. Sheriff’s deputies, Westminster and Garden Grove police officers located and arrested the suspect shortly thereafter. The suspect’s name was not released.
