Is Monster Hunter Rise cross-platform?

The Monster Hunter series is known for its stunning graphics and dramatic combat. Unfortunately, while that has remained consistent with the release of Monster Hunter Rise, the game has offered rather controversial multiplayer options in terms of cross-platform and cross-play compatibility.

That being said, the game is meant to be played and enjoyed with your friends. However, does it stand side-by-side with games like Call of Duty: Warzone, or is online play as limited as Elden Ring?

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter Rise does not offer any form of cross-play between platforms. This trend is evident in all Monster Hunter titles and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.

Needless to say, the game is constantly being updated, and as the gaming industry shifts to online forms of play, we may see improvements in multiplayer soon.

Multiplayer in Monster Hunter: Rise

Multiplayer sessions in Monster Hunter Rise are based on lobby mechanics. You create parties with friends to challenge different monsters to earn rewards.

While all of this may seem lackluster at first, it works well for the game’s premise.

The multiplayer adventure is an extremely entertaining part of Monster Hunter: Rise. However, the levels become progressively more difficult as more players are with you. Therefore, we advise you to make the right choice as the increase is rather exponential.

Is Monster Hunter Rise cross-gen compatible?

Similar to most games that don’t support cross-platform, Instances of Monster Hunter Rise are not fully compatible across generations of the same console. However, it is still possible for a player to play on a PS5 through PS5 backwards compatibility. However, There is no way for players on PS4 to do the same.

For Xbox Series X and S it is possible to play with players on an Xbox One. However, the game will then consider your console depending on the older generation. Therefore, you can only compete against players playing on Xbox One or other Xbox Series consoles registered as Xbox One.

Is there crossplay between the consoles?

Unfortunately, there is no crossplay compatibility between the consoles. Therefore, players on Xbox will only be matched with players playing on the same platform. The same goes for the PlayStation players except for backwards compatibility.

That being said, the current uproar in the community could see us witnessing possible console crossplay in the near future.

How many players can play Monster Hunter Rise together?

Monster Hunter Rise multiplayer works by issuing or accepting co-op quests. Such quests can accommodate up to 4 players and can be registered via the quest board. That being said, the system isn’t the easiest to work out. Therefore, brace yourself for a series of headaches as you try to progress through the multiplayer route in the game.

You need to party online, invite friends and create lobbies to enjoy multiplayer. In addition, searching lobbies for a specific hunt is also possible. Therefore, you don’t have to wait for your friends to get online to play a multiplayer session.

As far as we can see, the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise also has mod support. Again, this is another reason why we won’t be seeing any cross-platforming in Monster Hunter Rise.

Does Monster Hunter Rise Cross Save?

For those who don’t know, Cross Save is a feature that allows users to save their in-game progress between multiple platforms. For example, cross-save would allow you to play the game up to a certain point on a PC and continue from there on an Xbox or PS4.

As you’d expect, there’s no way to do this in Monster Hunter Rise. As such, each platform instance is unique and therefore cannot be migrated seamlessly. Monster Hunter Rise has made an official statement about this in the following tweet:

Is Monster Hunter Rise available on mobile?

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter Rise has yet to be released for Android and iOS. However, the release of Monster Hunter Online showed that the franchise will continue to evolve.

Additionally, the mobile industry has evolved to the point where certain toned down PC games can be played on mobile. However, there has not yet been an official announcement from the developers.

All in all, Monster Hunter Rise does not have any cross-platform or cross-gen game. While this iteration of the game doesn’t seem to improve on these features, we can hope that the next version will!
