“It’s a Miracle”: Runaway SUV on a collision course with elderly priest blows up at the last second on the feast day of the Guardian Angels

A young man who drove an SUV passed out at the wheel of his SUV last month, putting him on an interception course with an elderly priest on his way to Sunday Mass. The runaway SUV came within striking distance of the priest’s car, but was thrown off course at the last second, leaving Father John Bok and his car unscathed.
‘Thank you God’
Fr. John is an 87-year-old Franciscan priest who used to teach physics. On October 2, he received a lesson in metaphysics on his way to Mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Milford, Ohio.
The Catholic News Agency reported It was around 8:40 am, as Fr. John was about to pull into the church parking lot, a 17-year-old man driving an SUV nearby suffered a seizure and passed out.
Without a pilot, the SUV jumped the curb that lined the next street, sped across a field, and sped toward Father. John’s driver’s door.
Fr. John later remarked that the situation was a “win-win” provided that “heaven will be better than here.”
However, it was not the old priest’s time to meet his Maker.
At the last moment, the SUV crashed into a street sign and an old post and appeared on video to jump in the air over Father. John’s Hyundai Sonata.
Fr. John told CNA, “I didn’t know this car drove over me because I was looking ahead and it was to my left and over me.”
“And out of the corner of my eye I felt something pass, but I just thought it was a bird or something,” he added.
The SUV landed nose down, rolled sideways, and soon came to an otherwise uneventful stop.
Mrs. John wrote on the Franciscan Friars’ website: “I wasn’t hurt and my car wasn’t scratched.”
A police officer later notified Fr. John that the young man, Braden Varner, was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center but was also fine.
Not only was Braden doing well, he was after WXIXhe survived with just a “tiny scratch” on his hand.
Braden said it was a “true miracle.”
The 17-year-old had never had a seizure prior to the October incident but is now being treated for epilepsy.
Guardian Angel
Sunday happened to be that Feast of the Holy Guardian Angelsa day when Catholics commemorate these heavenly beings that many believe in – based on Scripture, both Old Testament and New Testament — be charged with guarding”you in all your ways.”
The old priest marveled at the apparent coincidence, saying the incident “made him reflect often on God’s providence, miracles, guardian angels and the laws of physics”.
A surveillance camera in the parking lot of a neighboring funeral home captured the incident:

A family member who runs the funeral home showed the video to the priest.
“When I see it, I just scratch my head and say, ‘Thank you, Lord,'” the priest said.
As he contemplates the physics behind his flawless death, Fr. John wrote“According to Google [my car] is 4.83 feet tall. Why wasn’t the pole that stood in that exact spot attached to anything? Using what laws of physics did it lift the boy’s car nearly 5 feet in the air and hurl it over my car? So many questions.”
Although he will have to wait some time for final answers to all his questions, the priest underlined that he was “certainly grateful to God”.
